Jessica and Jordan have a busy few months ahead of them as they plan their Mount Washington wedding from their home in Calgary. That's why we were so excited when they let us know they'd be on Vancouver Island visiting family, and that they'd have some time to meet up with us to do some engagement photos!  When they said they liked places that would fit their love for the west coast forests, and the beaches, we knew a place that would tick all the boxes! Tall evergreens? Check. Tangly, mossy garry oaks? Check. Beautiful beach? Check! For a little added bonus, we had the whole place to ourselves which is always great when photographing an engagement or a wedding.

We always love to photograph couples in places they love, doing things they love, but we also have a blast when we get to tell people about a cool place that they've never been before.  We had so much fun taking Jessica and Jordan through the trails to explore the beaches and rock formations.

Golden Eagle Golf Course Wedding - Candy and Tim

We had the pleasure of photographing a wedding at Golden Eagle Golf Course a couple years ago and really loved the experience.  When Candy and Tim approached us about their wedding this year, we were excited to come back from Victoria to capture it.  They seemed like a couple who was perfect for each other, and it would be so great to spend a day with them at such a neat place. 

We loved all the personal touches that Candy and Tim put into their wedding were really superb and cheeky.  Being pharmacists, Candy and Tim handed out large prescription bottles for their guests to 'fill' at their candy bar.  They also had all their guests fill out a prescription pad with marriage advice for them to read through in the future. 

With all the excitement of the day, it was nice for Candy and Tim to have a few minutes alone together, to step away from all their guests and absorb the day.  They did this by taking a helicopter ride to a remote riverbed in the forest, just the two of them... and Matt. While they were away, their guests enjoyed their time putt'ing around the greens and listening to Candy's sister play beautiful music on the guzheng. 

Upon their return, it was time for the celebrations, with amazing speeches and stories about the couple and their relationship, they finished off their evening with dancing and sparklers.

Craidelonna OceanEdge Wedding in Sooke - Genny and Dave

Genny and Dave Get Married at Craidelonna Lodge in Sooke // Vancouver Island Wedding Photographers

When we met Genny and Dave last year, we were excited at the idea of potentially shooting their wedding.  They were sweet, genuine, outdoor-loving, and lived in one of our favourite places to visit in BC, Sooke.  We also learned quickly that Genny and Dave loved fishing, and spending time out on the boat with their daughter, Hannah.  What a better place for a couple of ocean folk to get married than at Craidelonna OceanEdge Lodge, perched right on the edge of a hillside, with panoramic views of the sea, and access to a beautiful ocean beach.  We have always loved weddings at Craidelonna, and feel it's one of the very best wedding venues around Victoria, even on all of Vancouver Island.

When we arrived that day, many people were enjoying the views.  All the men hung around in the crow's nest, overlooking the ocean, chatting, toasting the occasion with tequila, and of course, chiding Dave about how he had to spend a saturday on land.  All the ladies spent time on the lower patio, catching up, drinking wine and admiring Genny's bridal dressing process.  What a beautiful and radiant bride and mom, Genny is.  With her beachy curls and sparkling gown, she could have been a mermaid. 

From the intimate and seemingly isolated location, custom decor, speeches and toasts from friends and family, and service from the warm Craidelonna staff (family, really), Genny and Dave's wedding felt incredibly personal.  Even their caterer, Toque Catering, incorporated Genny and Dave's own fresh caught crab and halibut into their delightful and creative dinner dishes.

The Brock House Wedding - Lisa and Andrew

It was a gorgeous, sunny spring day in May when Lisa and Andrew tied the knot. It was really more like midsummer!  We started the day off with our *first* first-look in Lisa's parents backyard. Yes, you read that correctly. First first look!  It was excitement and cheering all around as their bridal party looked on.  Afterwards, Lisa and Andrew held an intimate tea ceremony with family in the living room.  After many congratulations, we headed over to Andrew's for the tea ceremony with his family as well, excited family gathering around.

Before heading to The Brockhouse, Lisa changed out of her gorgeous, flowy, beaded gown, and into a glamorous fitted mermaid dress.  Then, to our delight, her and Andrew had a private second first-look.  It was off to Brockhouse to enjoy some time wandering around Jericho Beach Park with Lisa, Andrew and their bridal party.  Freshly budded willows, green green grass, and warm sunlight created such an elegant atmosphere for these two, leading up to their outdoor ceremony under a huge tree in the Brockhouse yard.  It was touching to watch the smiles on  Lisa and Andrew's faces as they were officially announced husband and wife, and then as they headed down the aisle to be congratulated by their friends and family.

Pacific Spirit Park and Spanish Banks Engagement Session - Roxanne and Myles

Roxanne and Myles Explore Vancouver in Their Forest and Beach Themed Engagement Session // Victoria Wedding Photographers

We had a great time first meeting Roxanne and Myles to talk about their winter wedding in Whistler.  We talked about their life in Vancouver and all the things they love to do around the city with their son Cohen.  We were sooo looking forward to getting out into the woods for their engagement photos, and to hit the beach with them.  After all,  the beaches and forests are what we love the most, too!

We headed into the woods at Pacific Spirit Park to explore the trails with Roxanne and Myles.  It's always such a great experience to wander the trails, amongst all the trees, with no one else around.  The quiet and isolated area gave us lots of opportunity to get to know more about Roxanne and Myles, and a bit more about their wedding details.

To finish of the evening, we wandered down to Spanish Banks to enjoy a warm and breezy sunset.  Thanks for such a great evening, Roxanne and Myles. We're looking forward to your winter wedding and meeting your friends and family!

Sea to Sky Gondola Sunset Engagement in Squamish - Paula and Cameron

Paula and Cameron Adventure Around and Enjoy a Private Sunset During Their Engagement Photos at the Sea to Sky Gondola // BC Wedding Photographers

We've been really excited about Paula and Cameron's engagement session for some time now. When we first started planning for it, we talked about locations in Pemberton, then Vancouver, then finally decided on the glorious Sea to Sky Gondola in Squamish.  We've been dying photograph an engagement or wedding at Sea to Sky Gondola since it opened: and who could be a more perfect fit for this location than well-travelled, outdoorsy, and adventurous Paula and Cameron!

It was so fun to experience the top of the summit with Paula and Cameron who had never been up there before, and gave us a lot of opportunities to capture how much they enjoyed the experience, and the amazing views!

By sunset, most other visitors had departed for the gondola, and we had the whole place to ourselves. As the sun set, fog started to crawl into Howe Sound, and up from the trees below. This all made for a really intimate finale to the fun evening.

Lighthouse Park Engagement Session - Grace and Matt

I had a lot of fun with Matt & Grace at their engagement session in Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver.  This was actually my first time shooting there so it was a bit of a treat to see a unique part of Vancouver that I had never been to, despite it being one of the most popular areas in the city for photography!  It was a bit more of a hike than we anticipated, but Grace was a trooper even though she was wearing boots with a fairly tall heel!  Matt and Grace were naturals in front of the camera and their love really shone through. They have a ton of fun together and smile non-stop.  Enjoy!
