When we arrived at Abkhazi Gardensin Victoria to photograph Katrina and Chris's wedding ceremony, it was the most beautiful Saturday morning. Dew still clung to flower petals in the shade, turtles lounged on the edge of the pond, birds whistled from the Garry Oaks and quiet chatter filled the small clearing where guests waited for Chris and Katrina.  They arrived to the ceremony site together, hand in hand, and smiles across their faces, and we could immediately tell that today was going to be a special one!

And special it truly was! Kat and Chris, and their guests, were so inviting and joyous, that it was immpossible not to feed off their happy energy. The day itself offered up a little taste of what makes Victoria such a great place to get married and to live.  From the immaculately groomed gardens at Abkhazi, to the rugged shorescape at Cattle Point, and the modern artistic vibe at Fortune Gallery, we were treated to a smorgusboard of iconic Victoria.

Intimate Spring Wedding at Stanley Park Pavilion // Hilary & Chris

It's iconic, it's romantic, it's timeless, it's subtly grand. Stanley Park Pavilion is one of Vancouver's most recognizable and desirable wedding venues. Plunked in the middle of Stanley Park in downtown, it feels like a remote destination. It's no wonder that Hilary and Chris wanted this gorgeous property to host their classic wedding. 

Hilary and Chris started for their day at Westin Bayshore, with views of downtown, Burrard Inlet, the North Shore mountains and Stanley Park.  After a sweet first look, we ventured over to Stanley Park, where Chris proposed, for photos before their intimate, indoor, standing ceremony by the pavilion's beautiful fireplace.  After the vows were exchanged, and the champagne popped, it was time to party!  A very special musical performance kicked off the celebration, followed by dinner and speeches and a whole lot of dancing!

One of our favourite goals we've made over the past couple years is to do a lot of island hopping of the Gulf Islands, for fun and for work so we can explore more of island life.  We've seen and photographed weddings and engagements on Salt Spring, Thetis, Galiano, and now Pender, thanks to Hilary and Chris who invited us there to their cabin to explore and do their engagement photos.

We couldn't wait! We met Hilary and Chris at their cabin on Magic Lake, which really was magical! The crisp air, shining sun, lime green willow buds, and lakeside cabin had made us feel right at home and dreaming of spring! After hanging out on the dock with their pup, Lazlo, and cat, Earl, Hilary and Chris took us over to Medicine beach to show us the views and to pop out a wine picnic on the driftwood covered beach! What a perfect way to spend a sunday!

Thanks so much, Hilary and Chris, we had a blast! We can't wait for your May wedding in Stanley Park!

Spring is in the air, and summer is right around the corner here on Vancouver Island.  We've been daydreaming about camping, building forts on the beach, waterfall hunting, and watching the sun set over the ocean.  When Lynne and Brendan told us they were coming to Victoria to visit family, we decided it would be the perfect opportunity to do some fun engagement photos - and get a taste of summer in the process! Sandcut is a hidden gem of a beach with an easy trail to the beach, a waterfall that you can walk behind. Fun fact: the wall of the waterfall is riddled with shell fossils, slowly being revealed as the water carves its way though the sandstone.

The wind off the ocean was chilly, but the sun was warm and dramatic over the water as we explored Sandcut.  Lynne and Brendan really showed us how playful of relationship they have as they laughed, chased each other with chilly hands, outran waves, and swung from Sandcut's rope swing. All the fun and sunshine had us feeling summer lovin' for days after!

Granville Island Engagement Photos // Lucy and Alex

We spend a beautiful sunny winter morning with Alex and Lucy at Granville Island for their engagement photos in Vancouver // Victoria Wedding Photographers 

Vancouver in the winter months. From the east coast to the prairies, everyone knows the rumours: it rains, it pours, it clouds in with endless days of grey that stretch on for eons. Us sneaky west coasters do nothing to squash those rumours for good reason! It lets us get out and do those fun Vancouver activities without being trampled in stampedes of tourists. One thing to enjoy in the winter is spending a saturday morning strolling around Granville Island Market, and that's exactly what we set out todo with Lucy and Alex for their engagement photos. Since they live in the Olympic Village, Granville Island is a favourite local hang out for them, and we were excited to spend a morning date with them there. 

With sunshine and crisp air, smalls bud breaking out on the trees and a thin veil of clouds in the sky all we could feel was spring in the air.  It was a perfect morning for a date! Alex and Lucy spent the morning strolling around the island, and their flirty fun was only punctuated by the puffs of misty breath between them as they laughed, and the bright colours that surrounded them and their big smiles.

We can't wait to spend more time with them and their favourite people at their wedding!  

Glamorous and Adventurous Whytecliff Park Engagement Photos // Shirley and Darwin

Whytecliff Park is one of Vancouver areas most popular spot for engagement photos, wedding photos, and sunset viewing, for very obvious reasons.  With views of the ocean and the island, it feels like a remote escape, without having to leave the city.  This time of year it seemed that we had the whole place to ourselves.  This all made for a dramatic setting for Shirley and Darwin's engagement session as they explored the cliffs before enjoying a beach sunset in their formal gown and tie.  When we met Shirley and Darwin, we immediately infatuated with how sweet they were and how natural they are together as a couple, but we were blown away by how adventurous they were climbing around Whytecliff Park... in their dressed clothes! We were shaking in our own boots as we watched them navigate around the cliffs and trails looking as brave as they were stylish!

2017 was a fantastic year!  We travelled all around Victoria, Vancouver Island, Vancouver, BC, Canada, and globally to photograph some truly amazing celebrations.  It was so great to finish on such a high note, photographing Melanie and Matt’s intimate wedding at Whonnock Lake Centre in Maple Ridge.

 Late autumn weddings in Vancouver area always make us think rainy, foggy, misty delight, and always makes for a cozy warm indoor affair.  Melanie and Matt’s wedding was all of those things!  Whonnock Lake with it’s wooden beams strung with lights, the views of a mist covered lake, and floor to ceiling cathedral windows is the perfect place to host such an event.  We love weddings that end up taking place just before the cusp of holiday season, because they always seem that people are extra chatty, extra huggy, and extra emotional as they catch up with people they haven’t seen for a long time, meet new and interesting people, and celebrate the love around them.  It was clear that all Melanie and Matt’s loved ones and friends were having the time of their lives, and enjoying a memorable evening together: as we photographed the evening, it felt that we were photographing a big family reunion with so much closeness, photo booth fun, and dancing joy!

We always love photographing engagement sessions because it gives us an opportunity to capture something a couple really loves to do, and give a sneak peek into their dynamic and story.  A lot of our couples like to head straight for the woods and the beaches because that's where a lot of BC folk spend much of their free time!  And we do love our free time!  When Brad and Nicole suggested they'd like to grab some coffees before heading out for a stroll, we were immediately excited to try something new. We started our morning out by meeting Brad and Nicole at Creekside Coffee in Coquitlam, to get our fill of coffee and flirty cuddles.  These two were all giggles as we snapped photos of them and their yummy lattes, chatted about their wedding plans, and talked about their newly adopted pup!  After we were all caffeinated up, we hit the dock to continue some photos and admire the mist covered mountains and cloud blanketed skies.

Sayde's Iceland Maternity Photos // Victoria Wedding Photographers

Victoria Wedding Photographers take to Iceland for some Maternity Photos 

When we started planning our trip to Iceland, we knew right away that we wanted to shoot some elopements while we were there!  We had an amazing time working with Jessika & Mack, Meagann & Neil, and Farrah & Lance for their big Icelandic destination elopements, and were so glad that they decided to join us on an adventure across such a beautiful country. 

A few months out from our trip date, we got the big news; Sayde was expecting!  As exciting as this was for us, one of our first thoughts was, of course, "What about Iceland??".   With some quick math and reassurances from our doctor, we confirmed that she would be within the "okay to fly" window at the time of the trip.  From that moment, we knew that Icelandic Maternity Photos would definitely be something we wanted to do! 

We connected with Trista at Reclamation Design, our neighbour, and talented fashion designer.  Trista's designs and creatives all her gowns from reclaimed lace and crocheted tablecloths to promote sustainability in the fashion word. She has been taking the bridal and maternity world by storm.  Her delicate and flowy designs were a match made in heaven for the spots that we stopped to photograph, flowing with the chilly Icelandic breezes.  And by chilly breezes, I more mean freezing gales....on some days.  :p

Our approach to shooting maternity photos in Iceland was to see what we saw, and stop if something jumped out at us during our travels!  This made for some fun challenges for Sayde, who would change into the dress in the car.  At 7 months pregnant, was a bit of a task!  But she was an absolute trooper, getting in and out of it with (relative) efficiency as we travelled across the country.  Not to mention being out in the cold wind wearing just a lace dress!  

We love the resulting photos, and hope you do as well!  And it's pretty special that one day we will get to share them with our little girl, due January 2nd!
